Blood Donation centre

Many patients require blood transfusions in cases of emergency or during major surgery. Human plasma is the starting material for manufacturing plasma protein concentrates for volume replacement and treatment of immunodeficiency, bleeding and thrombotic disorders, and infectious diseases.

Who can give blood?

Healthy male and female individuals aging 18 – 65 years and weighing at least 50 kg may donate whole blood 6 times and 4 times per year, respectively. As plasma proteins are restored much faster than red blood cells, healthy subjects may also donate plasma up to 60 times per year.

How are blood and blood donations performed?

During whole blood donation, about 450 ml of blood are drawn from the antecubital vein using sterile disposable plastic material within about 10 min.
A plasma donation takes about 45 min. Whole blood is drawn and separated into red cells and plasma by means of a separator. The blood cells are re-transfused to the donor.
Regular blood donation does not impair your health. Donors´ health is monitored free of charge. All donors receive a flat-rate monetary compensation for their expenses.
