The fields of activities of the Institute of Pathology comprise the bioptical and autoptical station.

In the bioptical station small tissue samples obtained by endoscopy as well as cytological and surgical resection material taken from patients of the medical center and affiliated hospitals are examined histologically. The diagnoses provide prognostic information and serve  to work out further therapy.

In the autoptical station the underlying diseases , the morphological changes due to therapy and the causes of death of deceased patients are determined. The results are an integral part of quality control.
