As an academic teaching hospital of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, the clinical centre of the city of Ludwigshafen has outstanding competencies in research and teaching. Due to its intensive clinical research activities in various medically specialised areas, the clinical centre enjoys a nationwide reputation in scientific professional circles.

In our specialised clinics, institutes and centres, trainee doctors can expect a wide range of qualification and specialisation opportunities opening up best perspectives for a successful clinical career.

The fundamental tasks and goals of clinical research at the clinical centre of the city of Ludwigshafen include:

  • Support and execution of clinical studies and clinical research with an interdisciplinary focus
  • Applied research (orientation towards the clinical practice)
  • Increase of treatment efficiency for patients by means of research activities with economic reference
  • Support in extending teaching activities
  • Quality assurance in the area of clinical research activities and implementation of clear regulations in the field of project handling.

The clinical centre Ludwigshafen educates a maximum of 35 students per practical year. Besides the compulsory subjects of Surgery and Internal Medicine, a total of 8 elective studies are offered. These are Neurology, Dermatology, Anaesthesiology, Gynaecology, Urology, Otorhinolaryngology and Ophthalmology.

Furthermore, the following courses are offered:

ECG course, Lung function course, Sonography course, Intensive medicine ward rounds, Blood serological practical training, Plant tours by the company BASF, guided tours through the burn station of the Employer's Liability Insurance Association’s emergency hospital Ludwigshafen.
